Breed Standards Matter

At Rocky Mountain Irish Setters, we believe responsible breeding means preserving the qualities that make an Irish Setter unmistakably an Irish Setter. Breed standards are about far more than appearance—they help protect proper structure, sound movement, athletic ability, temperament, and overall function.

We carefully consider traits such as balance, head and eye shape, topline, chest depth, bone, feet, angulation, coat, and the rich mahogany color the breed is known for. Just as importantly, we prioritize confident, friendly, trainable temperaments and dogs that are physically capable of the endurance and field work the breed was originally developed for.

Our goal is not simply to produce beautiful dogs, but to preserve healthy, well-structured Irish Setters who reflect the history, purpose, and character of the breed for generations to come
